About The Hear. Here. Podcast

I'm a sound designer and mixer based in Singapore who has been making audio content in a career that's covered music, TV, film, online content, and podcasting. I do a lot of pods for various clients, but I wanted to make something that is just for me. I wanted it to be sound-centric, not interviews or conversations, and also to present in an immersive manner.

I heard the wonderful podcast "The World According to Sound" from Chris Hoff and Sam Harnett and loved the focus on short episodes that were centred on one sound, and was inspired to launch Hear. Here. Singapore. The "Hear Here" tag line is something I've used since the early naughties, as a way of encouraging people to explore and listen to where they are, and to discover the amazing sounds around them.

I started the pod during the COVID-19 pandemic and for a while, it was fine going out to grab sounds on my own, and started to want to incorporate more interviews, but restrictions on maskless interviews made me take a break. I started up the 2nd season (which is still going) once restrictions were lifted, and it's been a lot of fun finding more sounds of interest in Singapore.

I use a variety of microphone techniques to make each episode, and my gear list includes

  • 3Dio FreeSpace Pro Binural w DPA Capsules
  • Sennheiser MKH 8050 Cardioid
  • Sennheiser MKH 8060 Short Shotgun
  • Sennheiser MKH 418S Ms-Stereo Shotgun
  • Rycote HC-15 Short Shotgun
  • Rycote CA-08 Cardioid Pencil
  • Rode NT-4 Stereo XY
  • Sound Devices MixPre 6ii
  • Zoom F3

This podcast is made to be heard on headphones to get the best effect of the binaural and other stereo techniques used. Thank you for supporting this podcast, and do get in touch if you have any questions about the pod!
